Nuclear power plant
Amman - KUNA

Jordan will sign a multi-billion dollar-deal with Russian corporation to build the Hashemite Kingdom first nuclear power plant, announced Friday Jordan Atomic Energy Commission Chief Khaled Toukan.
"The deal will be signed in Moscow with state-owned nuclear technology giant Rosatom Corporation," Toukan told reports.
He added that the Russian firm, which oversees virtually all things nuclear in Russia, both civilian and military, will conduct studies on environmental impacts of the project, infrastructure, roads, and the ability of local power grids to deal with the produced power.
The deal also stipulates conducting thorough studies about the proposed location of the plant, the cost of and selling price of the produced power.
The studies will take two years and cost about USD65 million to be paid by the Jordanian government.
Later, the Jordanian and Russian government will ink a second agreement on the project financing and provision of the plant with Russian nuclear fuel as well as treatment of the used fuel.
