A report from the Arab Federation for Electricity for the year 2011, revealed th at the total electric loads capacity in Arab countries and the rate of growth per country reached its zenith in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which, according to the report, attained 48,367 megawatts in 2011. The report indicated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's electric power consumption in summertime equals that of twelve Arab countries. The Saudi Electricity Company announced last Tuesday (24 July) that demand on electricity in the Kingdom reached 50500 megawatts which is record high of electric loads that is an increase of 8.7%. The daily Arabic-speaking Saudi newspaper (Riyadh) quoted the company as saying that, despite that, the Kingdom's electric power system, retains an appropriate reserve which lowers during zenith hours which is supposed to be 10%. The company aspires to contribute to electric power generation projects currently being implemented and to host 15,000 megawatts. According to plans, this capacity should come into operation during the next three years to meet growing demand for electric power in order to retain sufficient reserves as soon as this comes into being. The company urged Saudi citizens and residents to save electric power by shutting off unnecessary appliances until after power peaks which extend from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm throughout the year.
