The National Assembly, at its regular session on Wednesday, approved a number of reports forwarded by parliamentary committees and the Government, essentially approving construction of new power and water plants.
The Assembly endorsed a report by the financial affairs committee, amending fifth article of the Law Number 29 (2010). The modified law stipulates establishing Kuwaiti shareholding companies, be charged with building power and water desalination plants. It will be forwarded to the utility commission, on Sunday, ahead of submission to the Parliament at the next session.
The Parliament approved a request by Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs and Minister of Oil Dr. Ali Al-Omair to consider as urgent some bills that had been submitted by the government; namely amendment of some provisions of Law Number 32 (1967) regarding the army, another draft law prohibiting manufacture or storage of chemical arms, and a third one concerning military service.
Moreover, the legislators approved a report, presented by the head of the educational affairs committee, on employment of Kuwaiti retirees as security guards at public schools, and referred it to the human resources committee.
They endorsed a report from the complaints commission, essentially suspending any measure by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry against the Gulf Investment International Company -- such as liquidating it or withdrawing its permit.
The lawmakers were briefed about messages from His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince, responding to parliamentary congratulations on the National Days and their Highnesses' anniversaries of ascending to the top posts.
