Yangon - XINHUA

Myanmar has sought cooperation with Austria for the development, operation and transfer of Deedoke Hydropower project in Mandalay region, official media reported Saturday.
Myanmar Ministry of Electric Power and Austria-based ANDRITZ Hydro GmbH, a global supplier of electromechanical equipment and services for hydropower plants, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Nay Pyi Taw, said the New Light of Myanmar.
Under the MoU, ANDRITZ Hydro will establish a 66 megawatt low- head power plant there through a joint venture.
In May, the Ministry of Electric Power of Myanmar and the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology of Austria also signed a MoU on technology cooperation.
According to the ministry, only 36 percent of the country's population has access to electricity, with the remaining people living without electricity.
