Muscat - FANA

Youssef bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs has said that the Sultanate decided not to go ahead with this issue for its various hazards. The Sultanate will not build a nuclear reactor for energy because of the dangers involved, especially after what happened in Japan recently, Bin Alawi said in an interview with “strategies” Talk Show on the Sultanate of Oman TV station. He further noted that the studies about nuclear energy in which the Sultanate took part have affirmed that this is very dangerous, especially for countries which does not own advanced scientific and technical capacities. He went on to say that the fear of nuclear weapon is normal because of the potential for errors and human and natural disasters that can cause, and we must fear the hazards of nuclear weapons, even in the hand of the United States which has friendly relations with the Sultanate and GCC States, adding that the use of large nuclear reactors is a threat to all peoples. Touching on the Syrian issue, the Omani Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs said that what is happening in Syria is akin to revenge between groups fighting the Syrian regime and The Government, which is an old revenge for which those groups have found now the chance to settle it, but the price was heavy because it is paid by the blood of the Syrians. He added that regarding the Syrian situation the world has agreed on two things: first to stop the violence completely by all means and this action is being discussed seriously and rapidly and the second matter is that the change in Syria must be radical, including regime change. Bin Alawi said that he believes that the opposition led by the Free Syrian Army reached a level of confidence and strength equal to the regular army and this is an indicator to push the parties into agreement, and that the conflict must come to an end eventually.
