Qatar pledged to pay for the price of fuel to Gaza Strip's lone power station, the office of former Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniya and Deputy President of Hamas political bureau, said Tuesday.
The pledge came during a telephone conversation between Qatari Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Thani and Haniya.
During the phone call the Qatari premier affirmed to Haniya the price for fueling the power station was transferred to Palestinian Authority treasury to run the power plant for an additional three months, reiterating its support for the Palestinian people, Haniya's office said in a statement.
Earlier, the office of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced that a telephone call took place between President Abbas and Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, during which the two sides discussed ways to accelerate the reconstruction of Gaza Strip, including running the lone power plant in Gaza.
In a statement quoted by Palestinian news agency (WAFA), the Palestinian president's office said that Qatar's contribution comes in accordance with the recent Gaza donors' conference which was held on the 12th of October in Cairo.
In that conference, Qatar pledged to contribute one billion dollars for the reconstruction of Gaza Strip.
