HE Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, inaugurated today the 3rd Middle East Turbomachinery Symposium (METS 2015), which will run until 18 February at the Sheraton Doha Resort & Convention Hotel.
The symposium officially began this morning with an opening ceremony, during which HE Dr. Al-Sada delivered the keynote address and then led the formal ribbon cutting and opening of the exhibition.
The Turbomachinery Laboratory at Texas A&M University organizes this event with immense support from Qatar Petroleum, the host and titanium sponsor.
METS 2015 is also supported by Texas A&M University at Qatar and by major sponsors: RasGas Company Limited as a platinum sponsor, Qatargas as a platinum sponsor, and ExxonMobil as a gold sponsor.
In addition to the keynote speech of HE Dr. Al-Sada, the opening ceremony also featured the speeches of METS Advisory Committee Co-Chair Dr. Dara Childs, Director of the Turbomachinery Laboratory at Texas A&M University, as well as Simon Younger, Vice President and Joint Interest Manager for ExxonMobil Qatar.
"Energy lives here in Qatar. It lives in the dedication of its people, in science, in innovation - in Qatar’s big plans for an even brighter future," said Simon Younger, Vice President and Joint Interest Manager for ExxonMobil Qatar Inc. "The many first-of-a-kind accomplishments achieved here in the State of Qatar are prime examples of how advancements in technology can be game changing. The Middle East Turbomachinery Symposium (METS) is a great opportunity for us to share ideas and exchange best practices and ExxonMobil Qatar is pleased to be a part of it." Following the speeches, plaques of appreciation were then presented to major sponsors with sincere gratitude for their immense support.
Still to come during the symposium are over two days of world-class technical sessions and international networking opportunities in the exhibition hall. Delegates can choose to attend and engage in a combination of 8 discussion groups, 12 tutorials, 12 lectures, and 18 case studies on various topics such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), wet gas, vibration, gas turbines, surge, and cavitation.
Technical sessions also cover topics on maintenance, design, and troubleshooting as well as short case studies describing in?the?field problems and their real?world solutions.
The METS exhibition hosts booths from over 50 leading companies from the Middle East, North America, Asia, and Europe. The hall is open to the public, free of charge Monday and Tuesday, 16-17 February 1000-1800 hours and Wednesday, 18 February, 0900 – 1200 hours.
It will be an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in learning about advances in turbomachinery technology from high profile, internationally renowned companies.
