Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, chaired the 28th meeting of the Supreme Council of Energy, in the presence of Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy and Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Energy. The meeting was also attended by members of the Council, including Abdullah Kalban, CEO of Dubai Aluminium Company, Dubal, Saeed Khoory, CEO of ENOC, Abdullah Abdel Kareem, Director-General of the Department of Oil Affairs, Waleed Salman, Chairman of the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence, Salem bin Mesmaar, Assistant Director-General for Supervision of Environment, Health and Safety, at Dubai Municipality, Dr. Yousef Al Ali, Executive Director of Roads and Transport Authority, RTA, as well as representatives from Dubai Supply Authority. The Council discussed various topics including the implementation of plans for demand side management, renewable energy, and the regulatory framework for district cooling. The Supreme Council also discussed the application and progress of its Demand Side Management strategy, which has eight programmes to manage energy demand including regulations for green building construction, retrofitting of existing buildings, district cooling, wastewater reuse, laws and standards to raise efficiency, energy-efficient street lighting, and different free structures for peak time usage to rationalise electricity demand. Dubai Municipality presented their green initiatives including the application of waste-to-energy technology and reducing waste, in line with the objectives of the national agenda 2021. "The Supreme Council of Energy is supervising the implementation of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, which aims to reduce energy demand by 30% in 2030. The Council is also developing regulatory frameworks for district cooling, and demand management of electricity and water in Dubai in coordination with the Regulatory and Supervisory Bureau in Dubai," said Mr. Al Tayer. The meeting also reviewed the Council's 2013 Annual Report, which was submitted to the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai. The Report includes details on the implementation of strategic initiatives such as energy-efficiency standards and the plan of action for energy demand management. It also covers the implementation of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the clean coal project, and strategy for reducing carbon dioxide emissions, as well as details on the Dubai Global Energy Forum and the Emirates Energy Awards.
