Is your iPhone missing? You may get it back through Find My iPhone. The app traces the location of the handset and shows it on a map that can be seen online at MobileMe.com or another iPhone after users sign in with their Apple ID account details. A Dubai user who tested the app said an iPhone icon appeared "right on top" of a mall in Deira where he works. Find My iPhone can also lock the handset remotely to keep out prying eyes. Users can set off an alarm even if the device is on silent mode and send the phone a message that pops up even when it's locked. They can also wipe out all phone data remotely - the files can be recovered if the iPhone is eventually found. IT expert Gigi George believes the free app works in a similar way that lets users make calls or send texts through websites using "net-to-phone" technology. "You don't need a phone number to ‘call' a phone - you can ‘talk' to it by using a unique ID that every device has over the GSM network for mobile phones. This app must be talking - sending and receiving data - to a network somewhere in the world," George said. Last year an iPhone owner in the US was reunited with his stolen handset after using the MobileMe portal to track down the location of the suspect's home in Wisconsin state.
