Three people were found dead in the snow and two elderly people are missing in the brutal cold that has engulfed the region, Serbian officials said. Three bodies were found in the snow over the past few days in mountain villages near Valjevo in western Serbia, where snow drifts have reached about 6 1/2 feet, B92 reported Monday. Goran Nikolic of the Interior Ministry said a 75-year-old from Mt. Suvobor in central Serbia has not been seen for five days and a 72-year-old was missing in Medveda, southern Serbia. Nikolic said he fears both are dead. A state of emergency has been issued for 14 municipalities. Temperatures in central Serbia dropped to minus 6 degrees F on Sunday night, B92 said.
