5.9-magnitude quake hits off Indonesia's Sumatra

A 5.9-magnitude earthquake rocked off the west coast of Indonesia's Sumatra Island in Bengkulu province on Sunday morning, the Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported, but no casualties or damage have been reported so far.
The quake struck at 09:14 Jakarta time ( 02:14 GMT) Sunday. The epicenter was 61 km southwest of Bengkulu city, Bengkulu province, 556 km from Indonesia's capital Jakarta with a depth of 16 km under the sea.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) put the magnitude at 5.7 with a depth of 55.3 km.
BMKG said there was no potential for tsunami.
Indonesia sits on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire" where several tectonic plates meet, making it vulnerable to frequent earthquakes.
