Hurricane Lane was churning in the Pacific Ocean Monday more than 1,000 miles from the Mexican coast, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. Lane, a Category 1 hurricane with maximum winds of 80 mph, was 1,180 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico, moving north-northwest at 10 mph, the center said in its 11 p.m. EDT advisory.
