Rains kill 36
Islamabad - WAM

At least 36 people have been killed and 27 injured after heavy rain across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, northwest Pakistan caused the roofs of dozens of homes to collapse, according to Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority, NDMA.

NDMA said that the water level in the Swat river rose dangerously, in a way which requires the evacuation of the population from the nearby riverside areas.

The Authority issued a warning on March 31st, saying that the region will expose to expected severe thunderstorms.

Pakistani authorities fear that the death toll will rise as some of the areas worst affected by the torrential rains are in remote locations and help has yet to arrive.

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif has given directives to all competent authorities in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to providing medical care, food and shelter to those affected.
