Environment Ministry: All whales registered in Mediterranean not dangerous to humans
Cairo - MENA

The Environment Ministry on Thursday issued a reassuring statement after a baby-whale was caught on camera drifting close to the North Coast.

The ministry said that it is a fact that all whales that appear in the Mediterranean Sea are not aggressive or dangerous to human beings.

After a whale lost its way and wounded up near the beach on the North Coast, the ministry dispatched a team of experts to help it get back to the depths, the statement said.

A plan is also set to wipe up the area to make sure the water is clean and safe, according to the statement.

No dangerous or aggressive behaviors were recorded by whales appearing in the Mediterranean, the statement added.

A video clip that runs for less than two minutes went viral in the past two days. It depicts a whale appears near the shore in the Mediterranean. The ministry said it is a toothless baby finback whale.

The fin whale is the second-largest living animal, after the blue whale. It is very streamlined in appearance with a distinct ridge along the back.

It is slimmer and not as heavy as blue whales.

Fin whales have been greatly affected by historical hunting, mostly due to their economically valuable blubber, oil and baleen.
