A baby giant panda was born in Schoenbrunn Zoo yesterday, the third birth by a panda couple who have lived in Vienna for over 10 years, the zoo announced on Thursday. The baby panda, 10 centimeters in height and about 100 grams in weight, is now carefully taken care of by its mother Yang Yang in a whelping box. No one could approach the baby, therefore, the gender of the baby could not be identified yet. To protect the cub, the panda house are closed to visitors. The birth of the third baby giant panda marked a new record of natural conception of giant panda in Europe, since the couple in Vienna are the unique pair in Europe which mated naturally and successfully had their babies. The giant panda couple in Vienna zoo have given birth to 3 cubs by natural conception. Fu Long and Fu Hu, their eld children, have been sent back to China when 2 years old as per a loan agreement between China and Austria.
