Miami - UPI

Tropical Storm Leslie roamed the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean Tuesday, maintaining a path that kept it from endangering any coastal areas. Still, beachgoers from islands in the Caribbean, to Central Florida and Bermuda were cautioned to beware of dangerously high surf as the storm moved slowly north in the next few days, the National Hurricane Center said. At 5 a.m., Leslie was about 545 miles south-southeast of Bermuda moving north at 5 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. The hurricane center said the storm's projected movement "may be erratic at times," but a change in its strength was not expected during the next 48 hours. Tropical-storm force winds extend out as far as 205 miles from the center of the storm and cold generate life-threatening surf and rip currents from the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda and the east coast of the United States from Central Florida north, the center said.
