Abu Dhabi - Arabstoday

Twenty two vehicles were impounded by Abu Dhabi Police's Patrols and Traffic Department last month for dangerously exceeding the speed limit. The radar "sniper" caught 12 cars travelling at high speed between 201 and 236 kilometres per hour," said Colonel Hamad Al Beloushi, head of the traffic police for the external Abu Dhabi regions. "Five of the confiscated cars were caught on the highway between Abu Dhabi-Dubai, five on the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain road and two cars on the Abu Dhabi-Tarif road," he added Ten trucks were also caught on the truck road and were impounded. Warned "Drivers exceeding the speed limit endanger their own lives and the lives of others. Therefore, their vehicles will be impounded for a month in addition to receiving 12 black points on their licences," Al Beloushi added. Major Bekheet Al Menhali, head of the external roads section, warned motorists that highways between Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain and Tarif are monitored 24 hours a day. He called on the public to comply with traffic regulations and abide by the speed limit, pointing out that driving at high speed results in losing control and failing to deal with emergency situations — leading to serious traffic accidents.
