An exhibition of classic and rare cars at Buraidah Spring Festival attracted the attention of a large number of visitors. “There were more than 300 old cars on display at the show,” said Abdullah Al-Salama, one of the organizers. It was one of the largest exhibitions of classic cars in the Arab world. “A Ford car made in 1951 was one of the rare cars displayed at the show,” he said. A 1955 Cadillac was the most beautiful car on the display. There were two expensive Ford cars valued at SR 220,000 and SR 320,000 on display, said Al-Salama, head of the team for classic cars, adding that the participants came from different parts of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries. There was jury to select the oldest and most beautiful cars at the show. Organizers also held a race for heritage cars for visitors to decide which of them can run with the highest speed. Saleh Al-Ateek, who has a hobby to collect old cars, displayed about 60 cars of different models manufactured between 1915 and 1980. Al-Ateek said he used to visit the US to buy old cars. “Many people started collecting old cars as a hobby. Now it has become a good business,” said Hamad Al-Harbi, owner of old cars. Owners of old cars participate in different events including events of Kuwait National Museum, Makkah festival, Jordan Museum, Qatar Museum and Janadriya Heritage Festival. Abdullah Al-Tuwaijri, a visitor, said the display of old cars would give new generation an idea about how their forefathers lived. “These kinds of events will contribute to promoting domestic tourism,” he added From Arabnews
