Ambulance sports cars will be scrambled to accident and emergency victims in Dubai, it was revealed at Gitex Technology Week on Sunday.
Dubai Ambulance has added a Lotus and two Ford Mustangs to its fleet to slash the response time even further, from a target of eight minutes to four.
Officials at the unit's stand at Gitex said the cars will be driven by specially trained drivers and carry first aid kits needed to stabilise critical patients until regular ambulances arrive.
They are not designed to transport patients.
The units will have with them items such as a responder bag, suction unit, and foam splint for fractures.
They super-fast units, capable of reaching 300km/h, will arrive on the scene in half the time it takes regular ambulance vans or even quicker, "depending on the call we receive and conditions on the way”, an official said.
They will be stationed in areas which generate a high number of emergency calls, he added, without providing more details.
The cars cost Dh300,000-400,000 without the modifications made for the first responder service.
