Ford’s first global performance model secures a starring role in upcoming British blockbuster. Outrunning the 'Sweeney Todd' (cockney rhyming slang for Flying Squad) is going to be a challenge for the armed robbers in the cinematic remake of the seventies UK police drama set to hit the big screens next year, as the new Ford Focus ST will be the secret weapon of the boys-in-blue's automotive arsenal.Replacing the original TV series' Ford Granadas, Cortinas and Consuls will be a handful of Focus ST hatchbacks in addition to Mondeos, Galaxys and Transits featuring as unmarked vehicles.Expect edge-of-your-seat car chases, with Ray Winstone and Ben Drew (aka Plan B) playing Detectives Jack Regan and George Carter behind the wheel chucking the Focus through cardboard boxes and wheel-spinning after the bad guys. The video link shows a chase scene being filmed with the ealry-build ST in action. The Sweeney will premier in the UK next September, and the new Focus ST will be conveniently on sale around the same time. There are two variants of the ST, a five-door hatch for worldwide release including the US and Canada, and a Europe-only station wagon. Both are powered by a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost engine producing 250hp and 266lb-ft of torque, which is more powerful and efficient than the outgoing 2.5-liter five-pot turbo.
