Ford Motor Co. says it is recalling more than 10,000 of its 2013 Escapes because carpet padding could interfere with braking. The sport utility vehicles, including 8,266 in the United States, 2,193 in Canada and a few hundred in Mexico, were built at the automaker's assembly plant in Louisville, Ky., from March 8 through June 7. The Detroit News reported Saturday Ford said the carpet issue, first noticed by an employee, could increase braking distance but said it had no reports of customers experiencing the problem. Owners will be notified starting July 23. Ford dealers will remove the carpet padding and replace the left-side console trim panel with a new panel that has a different shape. Separately, Ford said it is recalling 783 2012 F-650 and F-750 medium-duty trucks built in Mexico because their windshields could separate from the vehicle's cab. Ford dealers will inspect and replace or reinstall the windshields, the News said.
