Wellington - Arabstoday

Hyundai is voluntarily recalling some of its popular Santa Fe SUVs. The high-flying Korean manufacturer says the recall is purely a precautionary measure, to inspect vehicles that could potentially be affected by a problem that may result in fuel leaks. There are 1700 Santa Fes in New Zealand that will be covered by the recall, but not all will have the problem. Insufficient clearance between the engine cover assembly and fuel return hose is the reason behind the precautionary callback. Santa Fe models built between September 2009 and December last year, and fitted with the 145kW R-series 2.2-litre turbo diesel are the only vehicles requiring inspection. A statement from Hyundai says that the lack of clearance could cause interference between the two components, and if left unattended for an extended period could cause a fuel leak. The recalled SUVs will be inspected for wear on engine hoses, with worn parts being replaced. Each Santa Fe will have a clip fitted to the diesel return hose to protect against contact between the hose and the engine cover. The repair will take around half an hour if the fuel hose needs replacing, and less if there is no wear. Hyundai New Zealand is contacting owners directly, and more information is available on the company's website and a dedicated phone line has been set up for concerned owners on 0800 498 632.
