Total vehicle sales in July declined to 50,252 units from the 53,483 units recorded in the same month last year, but jumped by 20 per cent or 8,462 units compared with the previous month, said the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA). The MAA in a statement today said the sales volume for the six-month period also declined to 347,455 units from 354,598 units over the same period last year. The sale of passenger vehicles in July slipped to 44,835 units from 48,144 units in the same month last year, while that of commercial vehicles inched up to 5,417 units from 5,339 units. During the January-July period, passenger vehicles sales went down to 310,489 units from 320,047 units in the same period last year, while the sale of commercial units chalked up 36,966 units from 34,551 units. Meanwhile, total vehicle production in July, decreased to 53,453 units from the 58,004 units registered in the same month last year. Passenger vehicle production in July dropped to 49,270 units from the 53,629 units for the same period of 2010 and commercial vehicle production decreased slightly to 4,183 units from 4,375 units. However, against the previous month, the production improved by 25 per cent driven by festive season sales campaign and higher new Myvi sales. On outlook, the MAA said the sales volume for August is expected to be better than July, due to the rushed deliveries in conjunction with the Hari Raya season.
