When it comes to jaw-droppingly ostentatious weddings, no one does it better than royals. The royal family of the principality of Monaco have not disappointed, and have in fact gone a step further than their British counterparts. Deciding that no existing car model will do, Prince Albert II and his bride Charlene Wittstock have commissioned Lexus to build a one-off Landaulet version of its flagship LS600h L hybrid for their wedding day. Converted jointly by Belgian coachbuilder Carat Duchatelet and Lexus engineers based in Brussels, the Midnight Blue LS Landaulet features an 8mm-thick one-piece transparent polycarbonate roof that will allow well-wishers to get a clear view of the royal couple when they tour the principality. The conversion process, which involved stripping out close to 20,000 mechanical components and reassembling them, took a team of 10 specialists 2,000 hours to complete. Lexus claims the car will operate in full electric mode, with zero emissions, during most part of the wedding procession. After the celebrations the car will go on display at the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco.
