Electric car owners can charge their vehicles at 50 offices of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority, FEWA, said Mohammed Saleh, FEWA Director-General.
Khaleej Times quoted Mr. Saleh as saying that more motor charging stations will be installed as per demand and will be accessible at public places, including hospitals and shopping centres.
"Only the latest and safest motor charging technologies shall be adopted. There is a growing interest in electric vehicles and more people are expected to shift to them in the coming years.
"The first stage of the motor charging stations shall be completed within a year, starting operations in the beginning of 2019. The second stage shall be started as per demand and based on field studies and the facts collected," he noted.
In August 2017, FEWA offered a two-month free charge for electric vehicles at any of its offices.
The first charging station, to help reduce the UAE carbon footprint and wasted energy, was installed at the FEWA office in Ajman in collaboration with the GreenParking Company.
Haya Abdullah Alketbi, Acting Director of the Conservation Department, told Khaleej Times that medium-speed charging stations will be installed at all FEWA offices.
"These will also be installed at some malls, hospitals, hotels, government departments and some private companies, while fast charging stations will be installed on the highways and petrol stations all over the country.
The regular charging time at medium stations is around 1.5 hours. "However, it will take only 15 minutes to fully charge your car at the fast charging stations."
