If you found the Gordini editions of Renault’s Twingo and Clio RS a tad disappointing, we suggest you stop reading now. The French carmaker is at it again and has now revealed a Gordini version of the base Clio in all its Smurfian glory. It looks great, but there is a slight problem, underneath that racy body lies a bog-standard Clio. So it looks fast, but isn’t. As expected the latest addition to the ever-growing line-up gets a tweaked interior, different 16in rims and some other cosmetic bits and bobs. But crucially underneath that flashy, striped bonnet lies a docile 128bhp petrol engine from the standard car. In short, it’s nothing like Gordini’s past creations, like the heated up Renault 8 and the Dauphine. And what’s the point of racing stripes when you’re going to be out dragged by a cyclist at the lights? Like it? Loathe it? Let the debate commence on our Facebook page.
