The Sharjah Transport Corporation has launched eight taxis for ladies and families to be driven by women. “We expect to add more in the near future,” said the Director of Taxi Reservation and Distribution at the STC, Mohammed Al Buraimi. He said on Sunday that four of the eight vehicles are for families. “Each will carry a maximum of seven passengers.” “The immediate beneficiaries of this arrangement will be university female students, women going to hospitals or elsewhere and families on a visit to long-distance areas,” Al Buraimi said. Meanwhile, the number of people requesting for taxi pick-up has gone up since the inception of the arrangement in April 2011.
