Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East”, hosted a hugely successful second round of the Ramadan Drifting Challenge this past weekend in Sakhir. Bahraini drifting star Salman Mahmood was the star of the competition, which took place along BIC’s car parks four, five and six. Mahmood claimed first place after a hotly contested event that saw a high turnout of participants coming from all across Bahrain and the GCC. Taking the runner-up spot was Fahad Abdulla, while Abdulla Adel finished in third place. Ali janahi was classified fourth, while Mahmood Hassan was fifth. Hassan Al Qattan rounded out the prize winners by finishing in sixth place. Each of the top drivers impressed judges and the throngs of fans that were on hand for the Challenge. BIC organised the event with the aim of giving the Kingdom’s drifting enthusiasts a venue in which they can showcase their talents under safe and controlled circumstances. It therefore keeps drifters off public roads where the art of power sliding can be dangerous to motorists. BIC is set to continue this year’s Ramadan Drifting Challenge with a third and penultimate round of competition this coming weekend. Those interested in taking part can sign in at the competition venue on the day of the event. The entry fee to participate is BD5. Fans wishing to join in on the action and get into a car as a passenger may do so for BD2. In order to take part, competitors must have a rear-wheel-drive car and a valid road driver’s licence. They and any potential passengers must also be wearing suitable footwear, meaning no sandals or slippers. Shorts are also not allowed as the legs must be fully covered. General entrance will be completely free to the public. Those looking for VIP access to the venue can enter for BD10. This year’s Ramadan Drifting Challenge continues the immense success of similar competitions held in years past at BIC. The event has become one of the circuit’s leading attractions during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
