Dubai Press Club has announced the launch of the "Media Innovative Lab" in collaboration with Twitter, to foster a culture of innovation across the media sector in the country.
The Media Innovative Lab hosts a number of experts and academia in various media fields who will gather under one roof to discuss the best practices in the field of media.
The Media Innovative Lab commenced with the first specialised workshop under the theme "Storytelling on Twitter". It is aimed at training students on utilising Twitter to tell stories, discovering content on Twitter, expressing themselves, making an impact on the platform and promoting ethical behavior. The workshop concluded with a Twitter challenge where students were required to present a case study to their trainers.
Maitha Buhumaid, Acting Director of Dubai Press Club, said that innovation has become a trademark quality in all aspects of development adopted by the United Arab Emirates since its establishment.
The Innovation Lab is a new platform that offers media personalities the opportunity to interact directly with subject-matter experts so as to stay on top of the latest studies and theories in media to hone the skills of cadres in media and other sectors. It targets students in particular so as to build their competencies and prepare them to be the journalists of tomorrow, she remarked.
Buhumaid added that the lab is set to offer various specialised workshops that will be run by media experts, welcoming the cooperation of Twitter who inaugurated the Lab by running the first workshop.
Kinda Ibrahim, Director of Media Partnerships at Twitter, MENA, underscored the importance of this cooperation which aims at supporting journalists and students alike to keep them abreast with the latest in the media field. She further added that content is of paramount importance in the work of journalists and the workshop aims to help learners master the art of reporting news.
