The editor of one of Archant Herts & Cambs's weekly newspapers has lost her job in the wake of a restructure at the company. Debbie Davies left her role as the editor of the Ely Standard on Friday. Her departure comes more than 10 years after she joined the paper as deputy editor. According to a report by HoldtheFrontPage Davies made her name covering the Soham murders in 2002. Archant have confirmed that the Standard will come under the editorship of John Elworthy, who is also editor of the paper's sister titles, the Wisbech Standard and Cambs Times. Amanda Davison-Young, commercial director of Archant Herts & Cambs, said in a press release the restructure was aimed at bringing about "better synergy" across their Fenland titles, which she says will have a combined circulation of around 42,000. Davison-Young added: "We thank Debbie for her loyalty and commitment over the past ten years and wish her well for the future." The restructure follows March's closure of Archant-owned Cambridge First, which put 12 jobs at risk when it closed only two years after its launch.
