Five websites and five smart apps have been selected to receive this year's prizes of His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award.
The selected websites are from Bahrain, Qatar (two awards), Jordan, and UAE. The winning apps are from Jordan, UAE (two awards), Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, it was announced here last night at a press conference.
Thousands of entries for the coveted awards had to be vetted and whittled down to 50 best ones from both categories, websites and smart apps, said Bassam Al-Shimmiri, member of the organizing committee of the awards. Out of the 50 entries, five were selected for awards, he said.
The total of all submitted websites (9018) came from 18 Arab countries and those of all submitted apps (10855) came from 13 countries, said committee member Ahmad Safar.
He added that the awards will be presented at a ceremony in December attended by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Among the awardees are the Bahrain govt. portal, website of the Al-Jazeera satellite channel, Abu Dhabi portal, Dubai police app, Jordan medicine (Tib) app, Nabdh app from Kuwait, and Holy Quran app from Saudi Arabia.
The judging committee is made of eleven members from nine Arab countries.
