UNICEF Iran is proud to announce that a Radio Program from the Islamic Republic of Iran has won the 2011 UNICEF Regional Award for International Children’s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB). The radio program submitted by Iranian Producer, Ms. Mitra Ziaei, from Salamat Radio, features two children performing in a show, with the absence of the host, for a group of children sitting in the studio. They address children’s issues. UNICEF OIC Representative in Iran, Anna Riatti congratulating this Iranian producer for winning the 2011 regional award and wishing her luck for the prestigious ICDB Global award said, 'I would like to take this opportunity and invite all Iranian broadcasters, television and radio, to join the future ICDB competitions and empower young people through involving them in Media.” The International Children’s Day of Broadcasting celebrated on the first Sunday of March when broadcasters around the world are encouraged to allow young people to get involved in television and radio broadcasting. On that day, youth write, report, produce and present programs that allow them to reach a wide audience with their thoughts on the issues that affect them. The 2011 ICDB theme, “Girls Are… Boys Are…,” and asked children to talk about children’s rights and their importance. Regional judging took place in summer and entries were evaluated by teams of broadcasters, radio and television experts and communications specialists. The judges looked at content, execution and year-round youth participation. To win the regional award, the Program by Salamat Radio competed with entries from other countries in the Middle-East and North African (MENA) Region. The winner of the 2011 ICDB Global Award will be announced on December 5, 2011 in New York.
