Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh said the trilateral meeting between His Majesty King Abdullah II, US Secretary of State John Kerry and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, discussed important issues, mainly the latest developments and tension in Jerusalem and its holy sites.
At a joint press conference with the US secretary of state, he added that the King briefed Kerry on Jordan’s position that calls for preserving the status quo in Jerusalem and respecting the Hashemite custodianship of the holy sites in line with the peace treaty between Jordan and Israel.
"The Israeli prime minister voiced commitment to preserving the status quo in Jerusalem in accordance with the peace treaty," Judeh added.
The minister voiced thanks and appreciation for the United States for supporting the Kingdom in shouldering the burden of hosting Syrian refugees in the Kingdom and for providing economic support to Jordan.
The US Secretary of |State valued the King’s commitment and efforts to bring about peace in the Middle East.
He stressed the need for preserving the status quo in Jerusalem and taking serous measures in this regard, pointing to the importance of the Jordanian custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and the role played by Jordan in this regard.
The trilateral meeting, he said, discussed peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis and means to restore calms and preserve the status quo in the holy city.
On the fight against Daesh, Kerry said the US is working with its allies in the region and the world to confront this terrorist organization.
He also praised Jordan’s role in hosting Syrian refugees and providing them with aid.
