London - Arabstoday

A rally outside the US embassy in London in condemnation of the west's intervention in Syria and the related media lies about the developments in the Middle Eastern country has faced total media blackout. The protest rally held by dozens of Syrians in support of the government of Syrian president Basher Asad was only covered by the Demotix, which is an independent website for news produced by and from the perspective of the people. The protesters who were carrying pictures of Syrian president Basher Asad, featuring the words “All of us are with you” in Arabic, called on the western governments led by the US to stop sowing discord and fueling insecurity in their home country saying the media only cover the reports from rebels who are fighting Asad's government. The protesters who also carried placards reading “we support reforms, not violence and terrorism” later joined an adjacent protest rally organized by the Stop the War Coalition to mark the US defeat in Iraq. The pro-Syrian demonstrators said the US is planning an invasion of Syria similar to that of the Iraq stressing any foreign intervention in their country would only worsen the situation. They also voiced support for the Syrian government and people and underlined the need for a national reconciliation in the country saying the US and other western governments should leave Syria alone. The calls against any foreign intervention in Syria have been reverberating inside and outside the country from both supporters and opponents of president Asad. Hassan Abdul-Azim who is a member of the National Coordination Committee, one of opposing groups against Asad's government, is a case in point who has categorically denied western interference in Syria saying “we reject foreign intervention.”
