The UAE, represented by the National Media Council (NMC), is participating in the third session of the Executive Bureau of the League of Arab States' Council of Information Ministers, which will discuss intra-Arab media cooperation on such issues as the Palestinian cause and the role of Arab media in countering terrorism.
Director-General of the NMC, Ibrahim Al Abed, is heading the UAE delegation to the meeting. The delegation includes NMC's Director of Media Content, Juma Al Leem, and Ali Al Shamili, Director of Arab League Affairs at the UAE Embassy in Cairo.
In his opening speech, Adel Al Jaser, Saudi Deputy Minister of Culture and Information and the chair of the current session of the Executive Bureau, called for the implementation of the resolutions issued by Arab information ministers in the past, particularly those regarding the development of a pan-Arab media strategy to counter terrorism and suitable mechanisms for implementing this strategy, including executive plans to combat extremist ideology and terrorism.
He also urged for activating a pan-Arab media charter and re-instating the Arab Permanent Committee on Media.
Al Jaser also called for activating a plan approved by Arab information ministers in 2006 for Arab media activities in non-Arab countries.
The plan is on the agenda of the Cairo meeting.
