The Washington-based journalists memorial, Newseum, included on its list honouring fallen journalists two Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip in 2012 in an Israeli airstrike, according to the organisation’s website. It said that among the names of 84 journalists who died covering the news in 2012 and who will be honoured at the memorial on Monday are Mahmoud al-Kumi and Hussam Salama, Al-Aqsa TV cameramen from the Gaza Strip who were killed when an Israeli missile hit their vehicle while covering the Israeli airstrikes on Gaza in November in spite of the clear “TV” mark on their car. It said that the 2012 death toll of 84 is the fourth highest number of journalists killed in a single year. The memorial has honored a total of 2,246 reporters, photographers, broadcasters and news executives from around the world dating back to 1837.
