President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, on Thursday briefed the Council of Ministers on the outcome of his official visit to Rome and the talks that he had held with senior Italian officials.

"Talks focused on activating cooperation and strengthening relations, especially as Italy supports Lebanon in international forums," the President said, briefing ministers on his inauguration of the Mediterranean Dialogue conference and the content of his speech at its opening session.

President Aoun also briefed the cabinet members on the Lebanese delegation's participation in the emergency Islamic Summit that took place in Istanbul, and on the meetings that he had held with the leaders of different countries.

Aoun shared the content of the speech he had given, which outlined Lebanon's position against the recognition of al-Quds as the capital of Israel, and which stressed the importance of taking a unified Arab position on this issue
