Minister of Information, Melhem Riachy, on Tuesday visited the Press Syndicate in Beirut, where he met with its head Aouni Kaaki, who briefed him of the ongoing construction works to include new departments.

Speaking to reporters during the visit, Riachy vowed to endeavor to protect the rights of journalists, as well as those of the owners of newspapers.

"Protecting media means is protecting freedom," he stressed.

"Multiplied efforts among media means and journalists secure the unity of ranks which, in turn, shall secure freedom and protect media and Lebanon's message," he said.

Asked about the attack on journalists during a fresh protest in Awkar, Riachy said that he was following up on the issue with Interior Minister Nouhad Mashnouq, renewing rejection of assaulting journalists.

According to him, the pair will discuss the attack on the sidelines of the Cabinet session on Thursday
