Nouakchott - Mohammad Sharif Abeidy

The Mauritanian opposition has lashed out at Mauritanian state television for supporting President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz in a popularity campaign. The opposition said: "When the president was in a military hospital in France after he was shot, the state television didn't report anything on it. Now they're broadcasting programmes praising him to increase his popularity. "National television is twisting the truth. They don't want the Mauritanians to know the facts. This is not their role." The Coordination of Democratic Opposition urged the state television to stop these campaigns in favour of Aziz and to behave as professional and objective professionals. They also urged the channel to start meeting the Mauritanians' expectations and represent all the political parties.
