Media figure, Syrian TV broadcaster and presenter Ahmad Hajj Omar, who passed away following several days of struggling against severe brain hemorrhaging, was laid to rest on Tuesday, escorted to his final resting place by his family and colleagues. Chairman of the Journalism, Printing and Publication Committee at the People's Assembly Dr. Fayez al-Sayegh said that the deceased was very faithful to his country and a true patriot, noting that journalists and media workers who pass away are martyrs regardless of cause of death, considering the pressure and threats they face in their line of work. In turn, Chairman of the Journalist Union Elias Murad said that with the passing of Hajj Omar, Syrian media lost a prominent media figure who served his country and fulfilled his duty to the fullest. For his part, Director General of SANA Ahmad Dawa said that the deceased was a model of dedication to his work, doing his job with utmost dedication and with all his skill, adding that the work of the journalist who defend their country lives on through the honest people who will follow in his footsteps. Omar Hajj Omar was born in 1967 in the village Maardebseh in Idleb province. After graduating from the Journalism Faculty at Damascus University, he started working in mass media in 1994, preparing and presenting news and programs at Damascus Radio and the Syrian TV. He occupied several posts including Head of the Broadcasters Department at the Syrian TV and Director of the Syrian Satellite Channel in 2008.
