The European Union (EU) called on member states to embrace the "big data" revolution as data collection and exploitation are growing significantly, announced the European Commission on Wednesday.
Concerning this, the European Commission proposed several concrete actions, including establishing a big data public-private partnership, creating an open data incubator within the Horizon 2020 framework, proposing new rules on "data ownership" and liability of data provision, establishing a series of Supercomputing Centers of Excellence, etc.
Moreover, the European Commission would also expand investment in 5G technology, and establish best practice guidelines for public authorities and open data.
Vice President of European Commission Neelie Kroes said Europe should focus on the positive aspects of big data, and "leaders need to embrace big data."
