Hatay - Anadolu

A private television channel broadcasted video footage of the moment of falling of Ahmet Atakan, a 22-year-old protester in Turkey's southern province of Hatay, who died in continuing protests tied to the Gezi Park demonstrations. Ahmet Atakan passed away at around 2 a.m. on Sept. 10 in Antakya’s flashpoint neighborhood of Armutlu after taking part in a demonstration without permission. Witnesses and activists had claimed that Atakan was allegedly hit by a gas canister in the head by the police. However, Turkish police released a statement, saying footage from a police camera showed that while Atakan was seen falling from a certain height, no intervention by the police was visible.
