The Fox network has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles alleging television streaming service BarryDriller is violating copyright laws, court documents indicate. The Web site streams KTTV-TV, Los Angeles, to subscribers for $5.95 per month, The Hollywood Reporter reported Saturday. The name of the Web site is likely a reference to media mogul Barry Diller, who backed Aereo, another Internet television streaming service that has also been sued by Fox and other networks for copyright violations, THR reported. A New York judge in July did not immediately shut down Aereo, though the networks continue to pursue to case saying the company would cripple their business. Alki David, who runs BarryDriller, said he would pay retransmission fees to broadcasters, but Fox doesn't believe the site to be legal. "No amount of technological gimmickry by Defendants changes the fundamental principle of copyright law that those who wish to retransmit Plaintiffs' broadcasts may do so only with Plaintiffs' authority," said the complaint, filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. The suit seeks injunctive relief and unspecified damages, THR reported.
