US actor and comedian Tracy Morgan will host "Saturday Night Live" in October, NBC said Monday, his first major TV performance after suffering serious injuries in a highway pile-up.
Morgan was treated for broken ribs, a broken nose and a broken leg after the six-car accident in June 2014 in New Jersey involving a Walmart truck that rear-ended his stretch limousine.
NBC said the Emmy-nominated actor will host the live skit comedy show "Saturday Night Live" on October 17, his second time hosting the program.
Morgan was also an "SNL" cast member for several years, before joining "30 Rock," starring and executive produced by "SNL" alum Tina Fey.
"As a former cast member, Morgan earned acclaim for his seven seasons on 'SNL' and was Emmy nominated for his role on the award-winning comedy series '30 Rock,'" NBC said in a statement.
Morgan said he was delighted to be returning to the show.
"Stoked to be going home... #SNL," he said.
"SNL" begins its 41st season on October 3, with pop star Miley Cyrus slated to host the first episode. Of-the-moment comedian Amy Schumer will sit in the host seat for the first time the following week.
On Twitter, SNL said: "We're excited to announce our first three hosts of Season 41," with a photo of the hosts' names on a cork board.
The 2014 highway crash killed Morgan's friend and fellow comic James McNair and injured three other passengers in the vehicle. The actor has sued Walmart.
