Dunes International School organized a cultural evening on Wednesday that was attended by a large number of parents, teachers, poets and prominent personalities associated with local businesses, schools, universities and colleges. The star of the evening was award-winning singer from India Mohammed Vakil, who regaled the invitees with popular Bollywood numbers and ghazals. Through his much-appreciated presentation, he paid rich tributes to music legends such as Jagjit Singh, Mehdi Hassan, Ustad Ahmed Hussain, Ustad Mohammed Hussain, Begum Akhtar and Farida Khanum. School Directors Amjad Khan and S.U. Rahman thanked parents for continuing to have faith in their institution. “We have achieved incredible results in a very short span because of our dedicated teaching staff led by Principal Dharminder Manon and support from businessman, educator and school founder Nadeem Tarin,” Khan said. “This is all a combined team effort.” Rahman, who is associated with King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, said critical feedback from parents played an essential part in improving and consolidating the gains made by the school. “Through this cultural evening we want to convey the message to the parent community that we have arrived, and that we are aware of the importance of regular and constant interaction with all the well-wishers and stakeholders of the school,” he said. Manon, formerly the principal of Army School in Jammu, promised to take DIS to the next level. “We want our institution to be among the best in the region and we are on the way to achieving that distinction,” he said. Headmistress Supriya Kher outlined the salient features of the school during her address. Veteran alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University Mukkaram Ali Khan anchored the evening. His witty comments and couplets won him instant applause from the assembled guests. Prominent among those present at the evening were Awad Al-Kahtani, Shamshad Ahmad, Suhail Saqib, Mohammed Ismail, Danish Rahman, Shoaib Quraishi, Jaweed Yazdani, S.M. Javaid Zaidi and Azhar Kazmi.
