An elementary school in a village west of Manama, the Bahraini capital, was targeted in a Molotov cocktail attack promptly condemned by the education ministry. The attack on Khamis elementary school occurred on Thursday morning, four days after classes resumed in all government schools in Bahrain following the summer vacations. "Assailants hurled the Molotov on a storage room where school equipment was kept," the ministry said in a statement. "Several tables and chairs were burned in the act of sabotage." The attack aims to stall the education process, the ministry said, but did not accuse anyone. "Several schools have been over the last months been targeted in deliberate acts of sabotage that are part of a desperate campaign to impede learning and education," the ministry said.
