The first batch of educators working in public schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi graduated from the Nibras Scholarship Program. Launched in 2010 by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), the program is specifically designed to allow the teaching, administrative and support staff the opportunity to obtain a masters degree in Educational Leadership from across prestigious universities in United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. Graduates will eventually assume leading positions in the education sector in the Emirate. Ms. Huda Omar, a teacher at Al Asayel School in Abu Dhabi graduated from Oakland University in New Zealand; Ms. Shamsa Al Shamsi, a teacher at Al Murijib School in Al Ain graduated from Lehigh University in the USA; and Ms. Al Yazia Al Hosani, a teacher at Al Reem School in Abu Dhabi graduated from Bristol University, UK. Dr. Eisa Al Matroushi, ADEC's Guidance and Scholarships Division Manager, said that the Nibras Scholarship Program is one of the key initiatives launched by ADEC in line with the implementation of the New School Model (NSM), which looks not only looks at developing the educational foundation of students from an early age, but also provides Abu Dhabi's educators with world-class professional development programs. "Presenting 50 scholarships per year, the program provides educators with theoretical studies and intensive practical training to allow them to learn and bring home new educational and leadership practices. Scholars will also have a unique chance to work alongside global educational leaders," said Dr. Al Matroushi.
