Under directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, all expatriate students residing in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi were exempted from paying tuition fee arrears in public schools for the past three years from the date of issuance of the decision. This gesture represents the President’s keenness to provide education to each student in the emirate and to support the educational process taking into account the costs of living of citizens and expatriates alike. The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) in a statement issued on Wednesday confirmed that the directives of Sheikh Khalifa embody his keenness and unlimited support for students to provide a decent life and psychological and material stability for all who live in the country. The number of beneficiaries from his gesture is 15,750 students in public schools, whereas the total value of tuition fees to be paid for these students for the past 3 years will be Dhs192 million. Earlier, the ADEC issued a directive demanding all the expatriate students in public schools pay the tuition fee arrears accumulated over the past 3 years following which the Presidential action took place. In a separate development Sheikh Khalifa sent a cable to Mohamed Youssef El Magarief congratulating him for being elected as the President of the Libyan National Congress. UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum sent a similar cable to El Magarief. bu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan also sent a congratulatory cable to the Libyan President. Sheikh Khalifa has also congratulated South Korean President Lee Myung Bak on his country’s National Day. Sheikh Mohammed has also sent greetings to the Korean head of state. From gulftoday
