Police have warned schools of the need to increase security ahead of the summer vacation to prevent theft. An official at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Sharjah Police said the number of thefts increases in school grounds when the holidays approach as valuable equipment is left unattended. "Schools, whether private or public, should employ at least two security guards for the day and night shift. Educational establishments should also use CCTV and link it to the early warning detection system of the Operations Room at Sharjah Police," the CID official said. Legal residency status Article continues below He pointed out that schools will be able to protect valuables if they employ precautionary measures and staff do not leave large amounts of money unsecured. "Crimes of thefts in school grounds is a new phenomena and in previous cases, the suspects have stolen air conditioning units, desktop computers, electric wiring and electronic equipment," said the police official. He added that security guards should be employed under the school's sponsorship, and school authorities should ensure that all employees, such as maintenance workers and janitors, have legal residency status.
