The Varkey Gems Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Gems Education, have supported Sewa Day, a globally recognised initiative encouraging thousands of people to come together with the aim of supporting their local community by getting involved in activities that enhance the environment, relieve poverty or bring joy to the community. Sewa, meaning “selfless service” in Sanskrit, was launched on October 7, and will last throughout October and November in the UAE. The Gems schools have organised tree planting activities, offered daily necessities to the less fortunate, blood donations, visits to homes for the elderly and raised awareness about the importance of protecting the environment.
